Our Team
Our kidney and pancreas transplant physician staff includes nephrologists and surgeons who are members of the Physician Foundation at California Pacific Medical Center (PFCPMC). PFCPMC is committed to bringing the highest quality health care to the communities we serve through outreach clinics, education, and research and development.
Nephrologists
Lawrence Bohannon, MD is a transplant nephrologist and has worked with California Pacific's Kidney Transplant Team since 1985. He received his training at Howard University, University of Texas and the University of Oregon. He has served on the Kidney-Pancreas Committee of UNOS. 
Steven Katznelson, MD serves as Vice Chairman of California Pacific's Department of Transplant and Medical Director of the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program. Prior to joining our team, he was Medical Director of the Kidney-Pancreas Transplant Program at UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Katznelson received his training at UCLA and UCSF.
Parul Patel, MD is a transplant nephrologist. He completed his fellowship in kidney transplantation at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Prior to that position, he served as a general nephrologist on the faculty of Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Patel completed his medical school training and was trained as a medical resident and nephrology fellow at Baylor College of Medicine.
V. Ram Peddi, MD, joined the Kidney Transplant Program in 2003 and serves as Director of the Kidney Transplant Research Program. Previously, he was Medical Director of the Kidney, Pancreas and Islet Cell Transplant Programs at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Dr. Peddi received his nephrology and transplant training in Cincinnati and his medical training in the United Kingdom and India.
Surgeons
William Bry, MD is Surgical Director of the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program at California Pacific Medical Center, where he has practiced since 1986. He received his medical training at St. Louis University followed by a surgical residency at University of California San Diego.
Assad Hassoun, M.D., FACS is Surgical Director of the Kidney-Pancreas Transplant Program and performs kidney, pancreas and liver transplants. Previously, he was Director of the Pancreas Transplant Program at Scripps Clinic-Green Hospital in La Jolla, Calif. He also served as Clinical Instructor of Surgery at University of Minnesota Hospital. Dr. Hassoun received his M.D. from University of Mosul Medical College in Iraq. Phone: 415-100-1010
Garrett Hisatake, M.D., FACS is a transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon in the Liver Disease Management & Transplant Program. Previously, Dr. Hisatake served as Clinical Instructor of Surgery and Transplantation at UCLA Medical Center. He received his medical training at the University of Utah and the University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital. Dr. Hisatake is board-certified in surgery. His clinical interests include liver transplantation, hepatobiliary diseases, hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), and minimally invasive surgery for liver and complex GI diseases. Harish Mahanty, M.D., FACS joined the staff at California Pacific Medical Center in 2005 following a transplantation surgery fellowship at UCSF. Dr. Mahanty received his medical degree from UCLA’s School of Medicine and is board-certified in general surgery.
